The NEWMAP-EIB project, Gombe State received the Youth O’clock Advancement Association (Gombe State Chapter) on a courtesy visit…

…the association presented its scorecard and outlined its compliance with the fight against climate change.

The European Investment Bank assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation-Erosion, and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) welcomed delegates from the Youth O’clock Advancement Association, Gombe State Chapter, on a courtesy visit. The delegation used the opportunity to present the association’s scorecard, highlighting its contributions to combating climate change through a series of ongoing activities.

In his remarks, the Project Coordinator of the Youth O’clock Advancement Association, Comrade Abdulazeez Sani Labaran, elaborated on the association’s efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change through tree planting initiatives. He noted that the association has established orchards in Cham and Nafada, planted trees at the Nafada Eid Ground and the Local Government Secretariat, and procured five thousand (5,000) seedlings of fruit-bearing trees.

Comrade Labaran further highlighted the association’s role in conflict resolution and its fight against terrorism in Gombe State. He explained that the group has contributed to the rehabilitation and reintegration of repentant Kalare members into society through skills and knowledge acquisition.

In response, the NEWMAP-EIB Gombe State Project Coordinator, Dr. Shittu Whanda Ja’afaru, commended the Youth O’clock Advancement Association for its commitment to mitigating climate change. He encouraged the members to continue strengthening their efforts and to ensure that, like development projects, they leave lasting legacies in their communities.

Dr. Ja’afaru assured the association of NEWMAP-EIB’s commitment to identifying and collaborating with environmental NGOs to implement practical and impactful solutions for protecting the environment and addressing climate change. He emphasized that these efforts would yield tangible results through both direct and indirect operations, while also creating opportunities to nurture local talent and domestic fellows.
