THE GOMBE STATE MINISTRY OF INTERNAL SECURITY AND HOME AFFAIRS PAYS A COURTESY VISIT TO NEWMAP-EIB.

The European Investment Bank-assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation-Erosion and Watershed Project, Gombe State received the State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, led by the Permanent Secretary, Bldr. Ahmad Saeed Guli, on a courtesy visit focused on bolstering the partnership between the Ministry and the Gombe NEWMAP-EIB Project.

The Project Coordinator, Dr. Shittu Whanda Ja’afaru, in his remarks, thanked the Permanent Secretary for such a timely visit to the project and highlighted that the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs is part and parcel of the NEWMAP-EIB Project due to the need for a Security Management Plan.

Dr. Ja’afaru highlighted that the emergence of the NEWMAP-EIB Project is a continuation of the NEWMAP Project funded by the World Bank, which ended in 2022. The European Investment Bank provided funding that was subject to a 500 million Naira counterpart funding, which His Excellency, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, graciously paid. He went further to highlight the project’s two components: Component 1: Erosion and Watershed Management Infrastructure Investment, and Component 2: Project Management.

Dr. Ja’afaru further highlighted that the priority gully erosion site for the NEWMAP-EIB Project is the Railway-Unguwa Uku gully. He explained that after rehabilitation, the gully will terminate at the same point as the GSU-Mallam Inna gully control works. It is proposed that the water be collected in a reservoir, where it will help boost irrigation for months after the rainy season ends and also aid in recharging the aquifers within Gombe metropolis.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary, Bldr. Ahmad Saeed Guli, thanked Governor Inuwa for his magnanimity and zeal to make Gombe better every day. He stated that the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, along with all security formations, is ready to partner with the project for the greater good of the state. He also appreciated the direction the project is taking.

Bldr. Guli encouraged continuity and research among members of the project staff, highlighting that this is one of the main reasons Gombe indigenes are always ahead nationally. He added that it is what will enable subordinates to carry on the legacies of their superiors.

He further thanked the Project Coordinator for the insight into the project and acknowledged that with the NEWMAP-EIB Project, the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs feels at home.
