The NEWMAP-EIB Project in Gombe State has received the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Yusuf L. Jalingo, during an official visit to the project office, on Tuesday, 5th August 2026.
The Honourable Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, Muhammad Bello Kumo, and other senior officials of the ministry. Their presence underscored the importance the state government attaches to erosion control, climate resilience, and environmental management.
The Commissioner and his delegation were warmly received by the Project Coordinator of NEWMAP-EIB Project Gombe State, Dr. Shittu Whanda Ja’afaru, alongside members of the project management team, atmosphere was marked by cordiality and a shared commitment to environmental sustainability.
During the interactive session, Dr. Ja’afaru delivered a comprehensive briefing on the mandate, ongoing activities, and key achievements of the NEWMAP-EIB Project in Gombe State. He highlighted progress made for the successful execution of the project.
In his remarks, Hon. Yusuf L. Jalingo commended the project team for the visible progress recorded so far. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting NEWMAP-EIB initiatives and called for stronger collaboration between the ministry and the project to ensure the sustainability of interventions. He also urged host communities to take ownership of project sites when executed to guarantee long-term impact.
The management of NEWMAP-EIB expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for his leadership and support, and reaffirmed its dedication to delivering on the objectives of the project in line with the Gombe State Government’s environmental agenda.
