DAY 2 OF NEWMAP-EIB CAPACITY BUILDING IN KANO - NEWMAP-EIB Gombe State

GOMBE SPMU TEAM DEEPENS TECHNICAL SKILLS ON DAY 2 OF NEWMAP-EIB CAPACITY BUILDING IN KANO

…Delegation Engages in Discipline-Specific Sessions to Strengthen Project Delivery

The Gombe State Project Management Unit (SPMU) is actively taking part in Day 2 of the NEWMAP-EIB capacity-building workshop in Kano, joining delegates from 22 other states for targeted, discipline-specific training.

Today’s sessions are practical and role-based — designed to sharpen the technical and administrative skills needed to deliver the Nigeria Climate Adaptation, Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB).

The Gombe contingent is participating across multiple teams:

– ICT & MIS Officers are with facilitator Jenner Buck, building capacity in cloud computing, cybersecurity, workplace collaboration tools, and digital governance to strengthen data management and project systems.
– GIS Officers are being trained by Gabriel Vincent Sanya on GIS fundamentals, spatial analysis, watershed delineation, and the use of satellite imagery for gully erosion assessment.
– Audit & Finance Officers are engaging Anthony Keelson and Terwase Stephen Sontyo on internal controls, risk-based auditing, governance frameworks, and fraud prevention to uphold financial accountability.
– GBV & GRM Officers are in a session led by Adeola Adewale of UNOPS and NEWMAP-EIB staff, covering the Six-Step Grievance Handling Process and survivor-centered approaches to GBV/SEAH cases.
– HR & Administration Officers are working with Christie Buah and Marriot Ampofu on HR planning, team integration, records management, and performance management.
– Communications Officers are in a hands-on session with Souhaila Merzougui on strategic communications, stakeholder mapping, storytelling, and content development to improve public engagement

The Day 2 programme underscores NEWMAP-EIB’s focus on translating training into action for improved project implementation.

Gombe SPMU reaffirms its commitment to apply these new competencies to deliver climate-resilient interventions that protect communities, farmlands, infrastructure, and livelihoods across the state.
